Humane animal care - part of our National Food NW values

Caring for our Hens

The hens are the heart of our farms. We take our Humane Animal Care Program seriously. We love our ladies and we know that healthy, happy hens produce the highest quality and nutritious eggs. Our hens continuously have access to our custom milled high-quality feeds, as well as clean filtered water, appropriate lighting, and management practices designed for optimal animal well-being. Keeping our hens healthy and free from diseases is an important component of our animal care program. We work with veterinarians and poultry specialists and strive to have healthy productive flocks. Our humane animal care philosophy and certifications are some of the most rigorous in the egg farming industry.

All of our hen houses in Oregon and Washington are cage-free aviaries where hens are free to fly, perch, dust bathe, scratch, and participate in healthy hen behavior. Our 100% cage-free conversion in Oregon and Washington farms was completed in 2023.

Our animal care certifications are some of the strongest in egg farming.

Outside Access

Our Organic aviary style barns allow our hens outside access to participate in some of their favorite natural behaviors as they roam the space.

Hens Flying and Perching

Our aviary style barns allow our hens to fly and perch – some of their favorite natural behaviors. They are free to perch and fly at will with plenty of space to turn and spread their wings.

Hens Dust Bathing

Hens enjoy the natural hen behavior of rolling in the litter floor – dust bathing. Our aviary style barns have plenty of space for hens to fluff their feathers and roll around in the floor litter.

Nesting Boxes

Our hens have access to comfortable nesting boxes when the the egg laying urge arrives – the red box in the photo. This is where your nutritious wholesome egg is produced. Now your egg is ready to head to the processing plant for washing and packaging.
